How to Save a Relationship After a Break-Up

If you have recently been involved in the ending of a relationship, you may want to know how to save a relationship after a break-up. There are several factors that need to be taken into consideration before deciding if it is even worth the effort in trying. Once these have been evaluated you will have a clearer picture of where you stand and what your chances may be.

One of the first things you need to consider is how long you were in the relationship. Long term relationships tend to have a stronger bond because of the history between the two people. If you have been together for, say, 5 years, chances for reuniting are probably better than for a relationship of only 6 months to a year. The longer you have been together, the more of a connection and love is there.  There can be a definite chance for this type of relationship to be revived.

The next thing you need to look at is the reason for the break up. Was it for something silly, as in an argument that just got out of hand? Or was it something more serious, such as one of you cheating? It may even be that one, or both of you, simply fell out of love. There are many reasons for a break up but only a few of them are actually promising when it comes to a reconciliation.

Suppose that the two of you just had a silly argument. In fact, it may have been so silly that neither of you actually remember the CAUSE of the argument, but you DO remember those things that were said in anger. Many times this is what kills a relationship because once you have said something hurtful, you can’t take it back. It doesn’t matter how much you apologize. The words have been uttered and the other person heard them. Depending on how awful the words were, there may never be a chance to save this relationship.

At any rate, if it was an argument that caused the break up, it may be that the two of you can spend some time talking seriously over what happened. It is quite possible that the relationship can be saved through the right amount of communication and apologies. It is certainly worth a shot.

If one of you cheated, it can really be difficult to get everything back on track. In a lot of cases, it is next to impossible. Betrayal of trust is one of the most difficult things to move past in a relationship, and it is a real deal breaker. Even if the two of you DO get back together, there will always be that little trust issue hanging over your heads like a big, black cloud. However, it may not be totally impossible. The two of you must sit down together and talk about the reasons it happened. What was missing in the relationship that caused the cheating? Or is it something deeper than that, such as a sexual addiction? The reason must be taken into consideration.

If the cause of the break up was because one of you simply was not in love anymore, you may need to accept that it is a dead issue and move on. Lack of love is not going to just be “corrected.” Both of you must be in love with each other in order for a relationship to not only work, but to even make sense.

In looking back over what happened in your relationship, you may still want to know how to save a relationship after a break up. But do keep in mind that, while many issues can be fixed, there are a couple of them that will never work out.
